A strong curriculum provides the topical information instructors need to guide participants on how to create positive relationships with financial institutions, manage their resources wisely, and make informed decisions for a successful financial future.

"29 percent of Massachusetts households do not have savings accounts."
-CFED State Asset Development Report Card, 2002

Instructors may spend more class time on some topics relative to others. Adapting curriculum to participants’ needs is appropriate, but this adaptation must be balanced by an assurance that each program covers all the core competencies for basic financial understanding.

An agreement of core competencies will provide a basis for quality and consistency across programs. The following list of core competencies PDF has been compiled, reviewed, and adapted by our Affinity Group of Community-Based Financial Education Providers in consultation with financial professionals.
